  • I can answer simple questions about likes and dislikes.

  • I can make simple requests.

  • I can ask simple questions and provide simple answers in the present tense at the Novice-Mid to Novice-High level.

  • I can ask and respond to simple who, what, when, where, and why questions.

  • I can read and listen to descriptions and recognize images that match the descriptions.

  • I can understand brief and simple written or spoken messages found in songs, videos, announcements or advertising from the target culture.

  • I can create and present short descriptions of self and others in spoken and written form at the Novice-Mid to Novice High level.

  • I can dramatize short reading selections (short songs or poems) or create and present short skits at the Novice-Mid to Novice-High level.

  • I can participate in cultural activities and describe cultural customs and traditions.

  • I can identify commonly held cultural viewpoints and practices from authentic materials such as videos, news articles, advertisements, or websites.

  • I can recognize products and symbols of the target cultures to reflect on cultural perspectives.

  • I can identify art and crafts typical of the target cultures to reflect on cultural perspectives.

  • I can read, listen to, and or view authentic materials such as poems, short stories, plays, songs, videos from the culture, and identify the author, musicians, and country of origin and reflect on the cultural perspectives.

  • I can relate basic concepts from other subject areas to the target language. (Example: Use Science and Geography knowledge and skills to record daily temperatures and weather and give reasons for temperatures based on location)

  • I can expand knowledge of other subject areas and apply skills learned in other subject areas with the target language. (Example: Give oral or written presentations in the target language on topics being studied in other classes)
